Mid Week Activities. By Chris Zimmet & Roberta Gerson. Since there is no local snow so far, we organized a hike at Caumsett Park in Huntington and walked about two hours in the fresh air. Then on Sunday, Jan 29th we walked about an hour and a half at the Muttontown Preserve. Weather was warmish for January with lots of puddles on the trails. Some were a challenge to avoid. Both walks were followed by lunch for anyone who felt hungry. Maybe this is not as much fun as cross country skiing but it's a close second. Anyone interested, please get on the list that Roberta or Chris has so you will be notified about the next hike or cross country ski trek. Anyone can do it and it's a great way to get together and enjoy the outdoors.

Mid Week Skiing By Gary Schorr. January has been a good month for the midweek skiers in spite of the lack of snow. We've been able to ski every week. On January 25th we went to an area that was new to us, Blue Mountain, PA. It's in the Poconos and boasts a higher vertical drop than Camelback. It also has more runs than the other Pocono areas. Conditions were good in spite of the unseasonably warm temperatures. It's definitely worth checking out for a closer area that has good skiing. Please check out the Long Island 50+ Ski Club on Facebook and like us. I'll be posting our midweek excursions on it. It's another way of attracting new members to our club so the more of us that like the club the more popular we appear to be.
